Fireworks

Is your pet looking forward to firework season?

Does your pet shudder at the thought of fireworks? Can you feel the firework fear approaching? We are advising pet owners to think in advance about the preparations that can be put in place to protect pets in the run up to Bonfire Night. It is estimated that approximately 60% of pets become stressed and fearful during the firework season.

Over the next few weeks, you may see the national “Remember, remember your pets this November” campaign, which aims to provide pet owners with hints and tips on how to look after their pets during the firework season and inform them of the precautions that can be taken to help them cope with their fear of loud noises.

We recommend keeping pets indoors overnight during the fireworks season and providing them with a hiding place where they can feel secure. Closing the curtains and turning up the TV may also help by muffling the bangs! The use of pheromone products or natural anti-anxiety products may help reduce your pet's stress without the need for prescription medications. As well as products to calm your pet, it may be worth considering microchipping so that they can be returned to you should they run away or escape due to panic or fear.
